Season
The season extends from
the second Friday of November to the first Sunday of May. It is
necessary to obtain a fishing license, which is available in Puerto
Varas and in Chaiten. We obtain the licenses for our guests.
In the beginning of the season, which is during November to January,
there are a lot of Browns and Rainbow trout that run between 1 to
8 pounds. Trout fishing is very productive in this period in
most rivers and streams. We usually go to many different fishing
spots at this time of the season since the waters level is high
enough in all water courses. Depending on the variables, fishing
is nymphing, with dry flies and of course with streamers, these
last patterns are specially appropriate to catch large browns.

In the middle of the season,
which is February through part of March, the return of the Chinook
begins in some rivers. they are not easy of catching by flies, but,
they are huge fish, the run is an entire show, they often
weigh 30 pounds or even more. This run lasts between 2 and 2 1/2
months, although sometimes it is longer. The trout's fishing is
pretty good, it is less productive than beginning the season but
you would have the best weather of all the year in this period.
Depending on the water level, it's pretty good to fish with nymphs
in the big rivers.
At the end of the season, extending through the middle of March
until first Sunday of May, the important event is the return of
Chinook salmon. This is also when the big trouts are going behind
them. It is possible to catch Bronw and Rainbow trouts between 4
to 8 pounds. It is when the average size goes up and fishing becomes
harder due to the most fish are getting ready to spawn.
